Boarding

Thai Airways New Royal First Class

Miki has quite an aviation history with Thai Airways. Whether it’s in the B747 nose of the plane or on the A380 upper deck, her longstanding tradition in flying annually to/from Thailand makes this novel experience extra special.

Booking

At the time of writing, there are only three routes (London, Osaka, and Tokyo) in the world that have First Class on Thai Airways. As a result, award bookings are very limited. As luck would have it, a flight happened to align (1 First / 2 Business) for one of our flights to Japan.

For seats, we decided to choose 2K, 11K, 12J on the right side of the aircraft.

Bangkok

At Suvarnabhumi (BKK), First Class passengers are treated immediately curbside with its own private check-in at the airport. Since we’re traveling as a family, the airline courteously included all of us for this expedite process.

Look at this, it felt like an army escorting us through customs. There’s even a secret “fast track” that gives you special passage through security. Not gonna lie, it feels super boss.

Lounge

After customs, we got treated to a private room in the First Class lounge where a host took care of anything we need.

To our disappointment, the Thai Airways First Class Spa is closed but we quickly forgot about it after seeing this breakfast spread.

Royal First Class

The design of the First Class cabin is similar to its predecessors where it’s in a 1x2x1 configuration. As we board, Chloe immediately wanted to steal Miki’s seat.

Grand Siècle surprisingly is served on the ground, which is appreciated since it’s rare that airlines pop top shelf champagnes before take-off. This means that Thai Airways cover the import taxes for this $300 USD bottle.

You can pair it with this gorgeous spread of caviar. This is probably the prettiest presentation I’ve seen in the air.

Another way to pair caviar is with Russian vodka in a frozen shot glass, which I recommend sipping with caution.

As if the food at the lounge wasn’t enough, here’s the brunch congee spread for the First Class cabin.

After that, Miki decided to take an expensive beauty sleep on her bed.

“Mommy, wake up!”

just in time for landing…

Overall, it’s a pleasure to fly Thai Airways New Royal First Class. Not too long ago, everyone thought the airline was done with premium offerings when it announced that it retired all its B747 and A380 First Class. Though the product is far from groundbreaking, it is great to see the airline back to its former glory — pampering passengers like royalty.
