There are few collectible items in the world I get excited about, but when it comes to travel the Lufthansa First Class rubber ducks are near the top. We just attended a family wedding in Europe and my brother was able to snag this experience for 3 passengers.

Today, we’ll talk for fun in how to access the secret rubber ducks
Origin/Transit matters
In order to get these special ducks, it’s important to be originating in Germany or transiting in Europe. The reason why is because the ducks are only accessible to departing passengers. For example if you fly directly to Frankfurt for 100k miles, you won’t be getting it even though you’re flying First Class…
…but if you add a destination (ex. Zurich) with the same amount of miles, congrats you will get the special Lufthansa duck since you are now a transiting passenger.
Another variable to consider is if your origin/transit is in Munich or Frankfurt. For example if you are departing in Munich, you will get a cute baby duck that is about half the size of Lufthansa First Class Terminal. Thus depending on what type of duck you want to get, you may need to strategically choose which city in Germany you want to fly from. For size comparison, here it is side by side on the backs of the adult ducks 🦆
Location in the lounge
A fun fact is that the guardian of the ducks changed in recent years. Previously, the shower attendant would discreetly gift it when they prepare a bubble bath for you in the First Class lounge.
Now the ducks are given to you at the lounge reception check-in. If you ask nicely, they’ll gift you an extra 😘 over the years, it’s a fun collectible souvenir for special travel memories.

Overall, the Lufthansa First Class rubber ducks remains one of my favorite travel collectibles. Its understated low-key profile makes it have a “if you know you know” aura to them. For those that want one, it’s important to know their quirky strict requirements in getting access. Until next time… quack quack
