It’s an autumn morning. Restless with a growing excitement to be in this romantic city again, we pull up to an iconic hotel to start our weekend adventures in Manhattan.
In 1904, John Jacob Astor IV built this Beaux-Arts style property. Since then, it has become a historic place and is the flagship of all the St. Regis hotels around the world.
Yep, welcome to St. Regis New York.
The lobby, albeit small, is beautifully decorated. It is understated elegance without being too overly ostentatious. In fact, I can still feel the history preserved even with the recent $100 million renovation.
“I apologize, your room is not ready for check-in yet…” the hotel receptionist smiles, “Would you like to tour the city though? Our house car is available for use.”
Walking out the lobby, the valet hails down their Bentley Mulsanne. Like the hotel, this car is also the flagship model of the Bentley range. It’s a $350,000+ USD ride. Pretty much a cost of a house on four wheels!
This is by far, the best way to tour New York.
- Need a table to rest your coffee or phone? Bentley gotchu
- Ughs, heavy traffic. I want to know the time and watch T.V.? No problem, Bentley gotchu there TOO.
It’s the pinnacle of exquisite luxury for transportation.
In the midst of our tour, our phone rings. Suddenly, Miki erupts in giddy delight. The hotel has surprised Miki & Paul with a special suite for their 10 year anniversary.
Named after its famous avenue, it is The Madison Suite.
You can imagine my excitement as I step into Suite 1436…
Spanning at 950+ square feet, this suite feels more like an oversized apartment than a hotel room. For New York standards, this place is huuuuuuuuge.
They have two master bathrooms, which includes two showers w/ two bathtubs w/ two his and her sinks w/ two vanity mirror TVs.
Lastly, an oversized bedroom to sleep…
Just like all the St. Regis (i.e. Osaka, San Francisco, and Dubai), don’t forget to take advantage of their butler service for a complimentary shoe shine, pressing service for your wardrobe, turn down service for your room, AND your morning/nightly french pressed coffee & tea…
For SPG Platinum members, all guests get complimentary breakfasts. With everything in the hotel so obscenely expensive, you can imagine us taking advantage of that perk everrrrrry morning.
Overall, this hotel oozes old-school sophistication. Although the style is not necessarily my cup of tea, the whole experience was a delight and a nice once in a lifetime experience. After all, I would never pay $2000+ USD per night for a weekend stay! To put into perspective, that’s more than most people’s rent in a month!
That’s the beauty with loyalty rewards. You can redeem for special moments like this.
In this case… an anniversary 🙂
Happy 10-year Anniversary Miki & Paul.
