EVA Air 787 Business Class

It’s 3:29am. I get a text 48 hrs before my flight. Normally I just sleep thru the notification, but my spidey senses eerily tingled since I heard it’s typhoon season right now in Taiwan. The preview of the message goes [EVA Air] Flight BR49/12JUL… my eyes immediately pop and I jumped out of bed. I already ran downstairs to my computer because I knew what the next ~~f#cki*n~~ words were…

Rebooking

Since my original flight was thru Aeroplan, this pretty much screwed me over because they needed to find a saver award in the same Star Alliance network that also originated in Dallas with the destination ending in Narita all in Business Class.

With the strict route limitation and availability being super limited, my hands were tied and I decided to take a huge gamble. I told the travel agent at LAX to just let the whole itinerary go. With no flights at hand, the only ray of hope was that she said she could see a seat or two available if I happened to have extra EVA miles.

I quickly drove home and voilà it felt like magic…

787 Business Class

We’ve been flying EVA Air for the past 15 years and this is actually the first time we tried their new 787 Dreamliner forward facing cabins. Immediately you can notice a lightyear generation change in its new planes.

Miki & Chloe also flew the 787 Business Class planes to Japan and they said it felt like a whole new airline. When the champagne came, we noticed their classic high-end noms offerings.

For sleeping, it’s more of a tight squeeze for adults when you compare it to the real estate on China Airlines Business Class but it was very comfortable for Chloe. She passed out the entire flight after the 鼎泰豐 xiao long baos…

Overall, I felt lucky to even make it on this flight. Like stocks and assets, the moral of the story is that it’s always good to have a diversified portfolio for miles and points. That way in case things goes south, you can get creative in rebooking an itinerary or in this case… reunite with your family at Tokyo Disneyland
