St. Regis on the Bund Shanghai

When it comes to luxury hotels in Shanghai, everything feels like it comes with pairs. For instance, did you know there are two St. Regis in the city? The first one is in Jingan and this newer one that opened on the historic Bund. You can immediately sense that this place oozes in rich Chinese deco – ahhh perfect fit for a modern emperor. Just like the Shangri-La, an entourage of staffs proactively helped our luggage to assist checking in to our next China adventure.

Booking

Marriott Bonvoy points are dynamic pricing and this hotel tends to hover around 70,000 pts/night while hotel rate was $250 USD/night.

Mathematically, $250/70,000 points only gives you a value of 0.00357 per point on the dollar so it was a no brainer to use cash for this stay.

Grand Bund View Room

The room is around 500 sq-ft and we got the historic Bund view which you can directly see behind the T.V. in the living room. If you look to the right, you can also see the Pearl Tower across the river.

The view extends panoramically when you enter the bathroom and if you look left, you can see the Yu Garden 豫园.

Chai Dynasty 宫宴

On brand with St. Regis, we dined like emperor and empresses at the Shanghai Gong Yan 宫宴 Imperial Dynasty Banquet Experience. Reservations are mandatory and is absurdly hard to get. If you’re able to snag a seat, it is one of the most popular and unique things to do when dining in China. You also get immersed into it since they dress you up into the dynasty era. The kids loved it.

Ok ok adults got super into too

Breakfast

In the morning, breakfast is on the lobby floor. We’re not dressed up but we feel like we feast as if we’re still kings and queens.

Overall, St. Regis on the Bund was a luxurious stay. It blends modern elements with the St. Regis traditional charm that makes you feel like old money royalty. Our multi-course Gongyan 宫宴 multi-course feast and the breakfast makes us feel like we’re at the golden era of the Chai Bear World Dynasty.
