Speculative booking success! Japan Airlines New First Class

Japan Airlines has long been our favorite when we travel to/from Asia. It is a foodie paradise. Thanks to its mileage partners (and lucky loopholes), we’re able to experience this indulgence more times than expected. This year it’s been rumored that JAL will launch a brand new flagship product (JA01WJ) too.

For fun, I did a speculative booking and suddenly noticed a seat map change today! In short, it looks like there’s a hiiiiigh chance I’m flying Japan Airlines New First Class this summer. Here’s the story in how it happened.

History

For decades, Japan Airlines does not have the most cutting edge seats. Nevertheless, it’s been Miki’s favorite way to fly to Asia since it holds the highest standards for service/catering across all cabin class.

When I got presented a champagne choice of either sipping on Cristal or Salon, I could immediately see why Miki loves Japan Airlines so much. Sugoi すごい !

There used to be a trick too where you could even score this cabin with the price of Business Class.

Sometimes, we even got lucky and got the entire cabin to ourselves! Though the layout is open, the feeling is incredibly private when this happens.

Speculative Booking

Following Japan Airlines press release, I did a for fun hail mary pass and made a speculative booking one month before my birthday this summer.

The seat map was still the old configuration (1x2x1), but I banked on it being changed sometime after its inaugural flight.

Lo and behold, the hail mary pass worked! Today after Japan Airlines did its maiden flight, I suddenly noticed a new seat map change to (1x1x1) configuration. Can you spot the difference?!

Things can always change, but overall it is exciting that there’s a chance that I’ll pre-party my birthday this year with the debut of Japan Airlines New First Class. I don’t even have a return flight booked 😅 so everything is still very much up in the air.

Anyone want to come to Japan with me? Stay tuned.
