Horsetail Oneonta Falls

It’s morning and I can smell the fresh dew in the air. Here I am, sitting on the side of our parked TANK oversized rental car… mentally preparing for our journey ahead. You can already hear the faint waterfall(s) streaming in the background. Wow, this is going to be amazing.

Where are we? We are in Earth’s First Class.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have arrived in Horsetail Oneonta Falls.

To get you situated on where this paradise is, it’s a 35 mile drive from Portland, Oregon hugging right next to the borderline of Washington. This region is most well-known for Multnomah Falls, but to avoid the common tourist crowds, we highly recommend doing these waterfall hikes first.

crazy waterfalls within walking distance of each other

As we depart into the trails, we decided to venture into upper end of the Horsetail Falls. It’s a relatively easy hike up with ridiculously luscious green views.

The highlight of this hike is seeing the backside of the Horsetail. Coming from drought-land California, it’s insane to see so much water roaring down into the ground. Hm… maybe Paul should do another shower video here 😉

wow

If you want a true one-of-a-kind challenge, head to Oneonta Falls after. Come prepared folks, there’s a 100% chance that you WILL get very very WET.

This place is like an adult obstacle course!

Level 1: Logs of Doom

Yep, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. That’s 20 feet high of logs you need to climb.

Don’t give up! Make sure you hike with friends and family, so they can help you throughout the way.

take your time, these are big logs

Level 2: Acceptance of getting wet

If you’re a first timer, after you complete level 1, you will still be extremely stubborn in not getting wet.

You’ll be probably avoiding the water by climbing every single inch of logs you can find.

Sorry to break the news to you Spiderman… staying dry is an impossible mission.

Just jump in.

Level 3: The Deep Journey

For most of the hike, the water is only ankle deep high. During this time, take a moment and absorb the serene nature around you.

Oh yeah & take pictures.

BUT as you approach the end, there will be a place where the water levels go significantly deeper. At this point, be prepared to have your clothes completely submerged.

Final Destination: Oneonta Falls

As you get out of the deep end, it’ll then be a piece of cake! The waterfall will be in your sight and it’ll just be a simple trek forward.

almost there!

WORTH…. IT.

It doesn’t get any better than this. Thanks Oregon, you have officially ruined all of my future hikes…

I have to admit, this type of lifestyle was definitely out of Miki & Paul’s comfort zone. But with the right people, motivation, and support, a journey that seems impossible to achieve can be transformed into an amazing unforgettable experience.

Just like a First Class flight, it’s all about the passage to the finish line… not the destination itself.

So if you’re curious, here’s a short minute video of our whole adventure.

Oh yeah & lastly… happy belated birthday Paul Chai 😉
